WEIGHT LOSS

Obesity is a common metabolism disorder and it can cause a lot of dangerous diseases like angina, diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart failure, gout and many more.

Obesity is basically excess production of body fat. There are a number of ways to know if you are normal, overweight, obese or morbidly obese. The popular way is using Body Mass Index (BMI) which is your total body weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared or your weight in lbs divided by height in inches squared. And the result is read as 18-24 normal, 25-29 over weight, 30-39 obese and above 40 morbidly obese. Another way to gauge obesity is by measuring your waist, if you are more that 80cm wide (for women) and more than 94cm wide (for men) – no matter what your height is – you are prone to obesity related diseases.

Ayurvedic View:

According to AYURVEDA, obesity is caused by the impairment of the AGNI responsible for the breakup of the molecules of fat.

Symptoms:

Being a little over weight may not show obvious signs of discomfort, but it can still affect your health and activity. If you are obese you will suffer from following ordeals:

  • Excessive sweating
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Low resistance and laziness
  • Sleeplessness and fatigue
  • Pain in joints and back

Causes:

Obesity results as excessive fat gets deposited in the body. This happens when the consumption of food is higher than the physical needs and the excess intake of food is not burned out with required amount of exercise. Other reasons for obesity are:

Common Herbs:

Herbs can help you only to a certain extent in weight reduction. Without proper exercise and considerable reduction in calorie-rich food, you will not get preferred results. The herbs that can help in weight controlling include green tea, guggul and bitter orange. Cabbage is considered effective in weight loss; you can also include fresh ginger and lemon in your diet as it helps in cutting fat.
